Application Process

For information on applying to the Homeowner Program, please visit our Own a Home page.

In the Homeowner Program application process, it's important to remember that you are not alone. Our Homeowner Service Team is here to provide the information you need and guide you each step of the way.

Step 1

Learn about our program and application process.

Learn about our Homeowner Program on this website,  make sure you meet Homebuyer eligibility and apply during the Homeowner Application open period.

Do I qualify for the program?

How do I get an application?

Sign up the interest form

We'll send an email

when the application reopens.

Step 2

Submit your application by the due date.

The application’s due date will be clearly communicated on our website, social media platforms, and all relevant events.

Step 3

Application Files will be reviewed regularly by Habitat for Humanity Anchorage.

We will continuously update you on the status of your application.

Step 4

Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a home visit. This helps us verify “need of housing” and answer any questions you have.

Home visits are conducted jointly by Habitat staff and volunteers in our Homeowner Services Committee.

Step 5

The Homeowner Services Committee will meet to select partner families.

After a successful home visit, applications are sent to be reviewed by our Board of Directors. All identifying information is left out so they can perform an unbiased selection based on need, willingness to partner (Sweat Equity), and ability to pay.

NOTE

You CAN choose not to accept the home chosen for you if you think it will not be suitable for your family. If the home is being built, staff will work with you to design something suitable that still aligns with Habitat policy. With our "recycled" homes, you will be offered up to one other house (if available) to tour as an option. If either of these happen and you are still not satisfied, Habitat reserves the right to remove your family from the program.

Step 6

The partner family signs a partnership agreement with us, and the process begins!

You will start your Sweat Equity and financial education courses, and soon be on your way to homeownership!

NOTE

From selection to move–in can take from 4-9 months for an existing house to up to 2.5 years for a new build.

Housing types and their availability will vary with each application cycle.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact us!

Thanks for submitting!
